I've seen shopping malls and supermarkets in India before moving to the USA in 2012, but they did not match the scale of the supermarkets in the USA. In Buffalo, NY, I used to go to Walmart super center and Tops supermarket. Both were huge in scale with a huge selection of food, groceries, clothing, electrical and electronics available for purchase. Later I went to the Costco and Sam's Club, and was blown away by the quantities available for sale and the relatively cheaper price tags. One of my friends said "if you want to learn about a country, visit a couple of supermarkets".
